Pageant is book one in the duet and I enjoyed it! A dark reverse harem with women taken by mafia men to compete in a pageant to become the wife (and to stay alive) of the leader? Sign. Me. Up.
To say Lilia has been disappointed by men her entire life (haven't we all?) is putting it lightly. The men in Lilia's life have treated her poorly and only viewed her as a commodity. That was until she met Elyah, the driver of her husband. He looked at her like she was everything he ever wanted and made her feel alive. They're pulled apart before they can be together and some misunderstandings are a driving force behind a lot of things that take place in this book.
This book is dark and not for the faint of hard. Lilia goes through a lot of terrible things in this book. She's a great heroine. She is tough, witty, and refuses to bow down. She uses her skills to get what she needs in order to stay alive and to keep the other women safe. My heart broke for her with the hospital scene π₯Ί
Not sure how the men are going to win Lilia over, especially Elyah. Their scene together where she admitted she loves him too, but that it hurts to be loved the way he loves her hurt. He has a lot of groveling to do. I loved Kirill. He's unhinged, but I liked that π Konstantin I want to learn more about and want him to bend the most to Lilia. He was the least impacted by Lilia which means he's going to fall the hardest for her. I can't wait π
This book ends on a cliffhanger and will leave you wanting more. I want to see how something we learned at the end potentially influences things and what will happen next. I HIGHLY recommend downloading the deleted scene because it's going to play a major role in the next book.
