Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
Spice: π₯π₯π₯.5 (or 4...I keep going back and forth on this rating)
Tropes: Age gap, BDSM elements, sensation play, wax play, spanking, a safe word is used and respected (we love that around here), plus size heroine
Triggers: Internalized fatphobia
*Please check triggers before reading*
I saw this book promoted on Tiktok and was immediately hooked when I saw the heroine was plus size and the love interest was an older, hot billionaire. As a plus size woman myself, I'm always looking for representation where the heroine gets the hottest man in the room, and this book gave me that!
I wanted to hug Juliet so bad when I was reading this book. I'm a plus sized woman and many things Juliet said were relatable for me. There was a scene where Juliet panics and falls down, which broke my heart because there's a different level of embarrassment when you fall down as a bigger person. Reed was perfect during that scene, thankfully, but wow did that hit close to home. Juliet did make me laugh when she would say her inner thoughts out loud. At one point, I wrote in my notes, "Is Juliet me? Is B.L watching me for character inspo? π" because I felt so similar to her at times. I wouldn't be mad at being Juliet if I get a real life Reed Taylor π By the end of the book, Juliet surprised me with how open she was and dare I say, a bit dominant. Hoping we get to see that side in a future book!
Reed was EVERYTHING I wanted and needed from a love interest for a plus sized woman who struggles with her body image. Reed was attracted to Juliet from the beginning and he wasn't shy about it, even if she didn't believe it was possible. The best part about Reed is the care and respect that he showed Juliet. He wanted her to feel protected, cherished, desired, and respected as a woman and as someone under his care. He constantly checks in with her throughout the night, makes sure she knows how beautiful she is, and reminds her that it's okay to use her safe word. Even when a mutual mistake happens, he apologizes and takes ownership that he should've known better as the Dom in the situation.
I like the spice in this book, but I can't decide on a definitive rating. This book has a lot of elements that are my favorite: age gap, sensation play, wax play (LOVE), and they're done well. I do think I expected it to have a little more spice, which is why this wasn't a five star rating. It's definitely spicy, but something is missing for me. A safe word is used and respected, which is always a personal favorite thing of mine in books because it highlights how important safe words are.
Thank you to B.L. Mute and Hatter Author Services for the opportunity to read One Night Only in exchange for an honest review!
About One Night Only
“Would you like lube with that?” This is what my life has been reduced down to… Asking old men if they would like WD-40 for their nether regions with their latest Naughty Nurses Volume 55 DVD from the adult store I work at.
Don’t get me wrong, this is my fault. I should have packed up and moved from this small town years ago, but I got comfortable, and now, I can’t seem to break the chains this place has around me.
I want something new though– something exciting.
And when Reed Taylor– the too-fine-for-Earth, billionaire silver fox– walks in to make a few purchases of his own, I know I've hit the "New and Exciting" Jackpot. KA-CHING! There's only one problem...
Men like him don’t go for women like me. I’m too thick, too average, and far too boring. But to my surprise, he doesn’t see me that way. With enough cash to get me out of this Podunk town and my name on his dotted line, I make a deal to get out from under my rusty detachable showerhead and under him. When all is said and done though, will “one night only” be enough?
One Night Only is a face paced, kinky short story that should NOT be used as a guide for kinks or a BDSM relationship. Reed and Juliet’s story is FICTIONAL and should be viewed and enjoyed as such.
