This was my first Ann Grech read and I appreciated the story that she told about Cassie, Jacob, and Phoenix. If you're looking for a sexually fluid ménage romance with emotionally available men, this is one for you! I thought Ann did a great job of creating two men who are in tune with their emotions and not afraid to feel them. Both of them weren't afraid to cry and share how they felt, which is something we need more of in the real world. She paired them up with an equally emotionally available women and created a really sweet triad.
I have to commend Ann for how she represents the spectrum of LGBTQIA+ identities in this book. She did an amazing job of representing polyamory, pansexuality, and bisexuality. I love how normalized the various relationships were throughout this book because that's how they should always be viewed. I really enjoyed seeing pansexuality represented because I haven't read many books where it's clearly stated a character is pansexual. I really was in awe of how well she represented so many different identities.
This would have been rated higher for me if a few things were different. The biggest thing I struggled with was the pacing of the story. It felt slow in the beginning, then fast in the middle, and then slowed down again. Additionally, it felt like it lacked some action. There was a lot of reading characters thoughts and not a ton of dialogue. When there was action, i.e. Jacob's dad, it was left unresolved. I was really expecting for us to revisit that and for the triad to take him down, but that never happened. I would've liked to see that.
Overall, I liked the book and the LGBTQIA+ representation was incredible. I didn't connect with this book like I was hoping to, but that happens sometimes. I definitely think Ann wrote some interesting characters and told a sweet story. I am curious about the next one and want to see Adelaide with her partners.
