I knew going into this book that it was a Cinderella retelling, but that was all I knew. I didn't read the description before I read it and I'm honestly glad I didn't because it made for a a wild ride! This gave me everything I didn't know I needed: spice, an alpha billionaire, a sassy heroine, and something sinister brewing in the background.
Winston is a thirty six year old billionaire who runs New York City and is used to everyone cowering to his command. In walks Ash, a new eighteen year old maid, who is trying to make money so she can attend Columbia in the fall, but fails at her job. He confronts her and expects her to cower, but she doesn't. Ash doesn't know much about Winston, but even when she learns who he is, she doesn't care. Ash goes toe to toe with Winston, which he's not used to and he's intrigued by her.
Winston and Ash are so good together. Like unbelievably good together. From the moment they meet, they have top tier banter that had me hooked. I could not get enough of them and their connection. They're so hot together, but they are perfectly matched together even with their age difference. Winston is cold and calculating, but he has many moments where he is warm and shows he cares for her.
I'm adding Ash to my all time favorite heroines. I absolutely LOVED her in this story. She's so sassy and such a brat, which is honestly relatable. Yes, she does give in to some of Winston's wants, but she does it because she wants to and also negotiates a worthy payment every time. I am taking cues from her on how to negotiate because she did not play around in this book once she understood just how rich Winston was. Queen energy only from Ash.
The spice is so good in this book and it was threaded into the story so well. I'm personally a praise kink girl, but this book made me realize I might like degradation more than I thought, although more so with words than acts (although some acts in this book had me thinking) π Winston is kinky as hell and he shocked me a few times with some of the things he said or did. The connection between these two and the age gap being on the larger side definitely amped up the spice.
Someone on my bookstagram told me that this series is part of the Midnight Dynasty world, which I already had some of the books from. I now plan on reading all of them because I am hooked on these characters. I've already read books two and three (Prince Charming and The Glass Slipper), so reviews will be coming very soon for each book!

Money can buy anything. And anyone. As the head of the Constantine family, I'm used to people bowing to my will. Cruel, rigid, unyielding—I'm all about those things. When I discover the one woman who doesn't wither under my gaze, but instead smiles right back at me, I'm intrigued.
Ash Elliott needs cash, and I make her trade in crudeness and degradation for it. I crave her tears, her moans. I pay for each one. And every time, she comes back for more. When she challenges me with an offer of her own, I have to decide if I'm willing to give her far more than cold hard cash.
But love can have deadly consequences when it comes from a Constantine. At the stroke of midnight, that choice may be lost for both of us.
